Rebellion

Only now that their regime faces collapse do the Guards respond as one. But it is too late. The Prisoners sit down in the Guards’ mess and cannot be moved. Nobody is quite clear what the implications are for the system or for the study. Will it continue, will it be at an end? Eventually, the Prisoners return to their open cells to sleep. But what will happen in the morning?

At the normal wake-up time on Day 7, the Guards begin to go through the motions. They announce it is time to dress and to shower. They call the routine morning line up. A few Prisoners respond half-heartedly. Others stay in their beds. No-one really believes in the system any more. A conversation in the Guards’ dormitory demonstrates that they too have lost faith:

gTA: It’s just not working out there.
gTQ: Yeah, OK.
gTA: It’s like, people aren’t listening, they want to do their
breakfast, they’re telling us what to do.

The game is up. The Guards’ regime is at an end.

The Guards' regime collapses: "It's just not working out there"
